Energized by cultural pride and a progressive outlook on the Filipino-Canadian experience, KULTURA FILIPINO ARTS FESTIVAL has captivated the broader Toronto public for over a decade with its innovative programming of live performances, traditional and modern cuisine, curated interactive art installations and a bustling marketplace.
Our annual KULTURA Filipino Arts Festival had humble beginnings as a small Kensington Market BBQ with no budget to a mainstream multi-venue and multi-day Toronto summer festival with public funding, partnership, and thousands of attendees from diverse communities!
KULTURA is the only festival of its kind in Toronto that is spearheaded by the youth-led KAPISANAN Philippine Centre for Arts & Culture and energized by volunteers. Since KAPISANAN's transition into a community-based arts and culture organization, we saw it fit to establish an event that celebrates the vibrant and contemporary creative expressions of Filipino-Canadians. KULTURA creates a venue for dialogue within our community, as well as shares a deeper understanding of Filipino culture and experience with the broader communities in Toronto beyond the clichés of “cultural costumes and food”. KULTURA aims to tackle these clichés through various art disciplines, including culinary arts and contemporary Filipino cultural fashion, which will discuss the Filipino diaspora in Canada and elevate our culture from flat and static, to three dimensional, mobile and active.
Kapisanan Philippine Centre for Arts & Culture is a multiple award-winning (1 | 2 | 3), youth-led, charitable community organization based in Toronto. We create a brave space for Filipino-Canadian youth, both second generation and newcomers, to overcome multiple barriers that prevent them from meaningful engagement in society. At Kapisanan, youth activate their creativity to explore identity, fostering pride and self-confidence, inspiring and empowering them to realize their full potential.
The KULTURA Filipino Arts Festival is organized by Kapisanan Philippine Centre, a registered Canadian charity (88838 7404 RR0001).
